Problem Note 52870: An error is returned by the TIMESERIES procedure when you use custom intervals

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

PROC TIMESERIES ends abnormally when the following conditions are all met:

  • The DATA= input data set includes multiple observations with the same value of the Time ID variable
  • The DATA= input data set is not sorted by the Time ID variable.
  • The INTERVAL= option in the ID statement specifies a user-defined custom interval

When this happens, the following error is issued to the log:

ERROR: Time indices computed for the time ID variable date from data set data set name using the interval custom interval name are not in ascending order. Analysis cannot continue. You should either examine and correct the interval specification or correct the data to eliminate this problem.

This error occurs even if the NOTSORTED option is specified in the ID statement. If a predefined SAS language interval such as MONTH or QTR is specified in the INTERVAL= option, then PROC TIMESERIES runs without error. There is no circumvention for this problem.
